Quality Assurance Associate
Nikki joined CHIL in September 2016. She earned her diploma in Biomedical Technology in 2005 from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). From 2007 to March 2013 she worked for the National Health Laboratory Service, in the Chemical Pathology division at Groote Schuur hospital, where she gained extensive experience working in an academic laboratory; she was Safety representative, External Quality Control Officer and managed the Manual Chemistry testing bench. She also was the Training Officer for Chemical Pathology and provided lectures to intern students as well as ensuring that staff competencies were up to date. She also assisted with accreditation tasks and ensured that the laboratory conformed to accreditation standards. She next worked at Ampath Laboratories from 2013-2016, where she managed the Vincent Pallotti Hospital stat lab. In this role, she ensured that all quality assurance aspects were covered, particularly in the lead-up to the laboratory’s initial South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) assessment and ensuing follow-ups. She is registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa and obtained her Clinical Pathology qualification in Medical Technology in 2007 and specialised in Chemistry in 2011.
